Helping Others Serve

By Dr. Sheila Pope

I am one of four Board of Directors charged with helping the Honorary Mayor Sandra Massie Hines’ grow her non-profit organization’s outreach programs and to raise funds. Ms. Sandra Massie Hines has served residents of Sunnyside for decades.

She founded Junior Achievers and Sunnyside Silver Hair Senior Group, Inc to be able to generate more support for her community outreach services. Ms Hines is the CEO of her organization.

Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, President, Ms. Shawn Aker and Vice President, Pastor Milton Bradford, Advisor Kris Ougrah, and Secretary, Dr. Sheila Pope, her nonprofit will raise funds and raise awareness of Mayor Hines’ programs. Board members Shawn Aker and Pastor Milton Bradford have served with Ms. Hines for years.

All of the Board of Directors support Mayor Hines’ vision and her passion to help the homeless, women, children, seniors, and ex-offenders. Board members all work professionally with the same population in different capacities.

This year, Mayor Hines decided she needed a website (www.jrachieversandsunnysidesilverhairseniors.com), a facebook page@jrachieverssilverhairseniors501c3, and to utilize other tools to help her bring awareness to her organization and its purpose.

We are having our first fundraiser to support seniors in Sunnyside. Mayor Hines is presenting her royal court at the Senior Cinderella Ball on September 27, 2018, at the Sunnyside Multi-Service Center from 10 am – 1 pm in the auditorium. We will have a catered lunch and live band. Tickets can be purchased for $50.00 on Eventbrite. If you want to sponsor a table or other seniors to attend, contact me at jrasshg@gmail.com.
