Attending My First “State of the City” Luncheon!

Me and Mayor of Pearland, Tom Reid

ttending State of the City!

I attended my first “State of the City” presented by Mayor Tom Reid. If you are an entrepreneur, I am going to encourage you to invest in your local chamber of commerce. Previously, I did not join my local chamber because of their meeting were during the day and I was working full-time and doing business part-time. However today, I am a full-time entrepreneur and I can attend their events and serve on various committees. While attending the luncheon, I saw a major benefit in making the financial investment in myself as a business owner and community leader.

Small business owners play a major role in generating revenue for their local city government and communities. We need to recognize our importance to our communities and we need to work with other business owners and local and state politicians. I invited my Campaign Field Director, Novella Bean to attend the luncheon and we both learned a great deal about Pearland’s history and its current movers and shakers.

More important, the luncheon was filled with hundreds of business owners, city council members, and state representatives. State Representative Ed Thompson attended the luncheon. I purchased insurance from him before he became a city council member and a state representative. I want to encourage businesswomen to join their local chamber of commerce and get active in their communities. I am leading by example.
